Fitness and Faith

How do fitness and faith go together? As christians, we are called to take care of our bodies and treat them as temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). Going to the gym can be a great way to do this! Not only does exercise help us stay healthy, but it can also be an act of worship to God.

At the gym, we can use the time to focus on the Lord and reflect on our personal walk with Him. We can pray for strength and guidance to be the best versions of ourselves for His glory. We can also take this time to meditate on God’s word and be encouraged by the promises He has given us to sustain us during the week.

Practicing fitness and going to the gym also provides us with an opportunity to share our faith with others. We can strike up conversations with fellow gym-goers and use our lifestyle experiences to witness to them about our faith. We can also use our workouts as a way to glorify God, knowing that even in our physical efforts, He is still with us and guiding us.

Overall, going to the gym is not only beneficial to our physical health, but also to our spiritual health. On the days we don't feel like working out, its an opportunity to practice the discipline of dying to oneself, refusing to be a slave to our emotions, and showing up anyway. It can help us to stay focused on God during the week and to keep our faith and bodies strong. So, next time you’re at the gym, start your workout with a prayer of thanksgiving to God.
